‘Announce the contract!’, Arsenal fans fuming after club’s latest announcement

Jack Wilshere

Arsenal supporters were left with mixed feelings after the club congratulated Jack Wilshere, only for it to not be associated with a contract extension.

The England international has just five months left on his existing deal, and there had been a sense of anticipation that the club would announce his extension shortly after Mesut Ozil’s extension was sorted out.

However, the club’s announcement on Wilshere was for his stunning opener in the 2-2 Premier League draw versus Chelsea last month, which earned him the club’s Goal of the Month award.

‘Announce new contract’, said Kuba

‘oh come on lads, I thought it’s the new contract! ffs.’, said Anita

‘Thought this was the contract announcement’, said Sebzy7

‘Well when I got a notification saying “congrats jack…” I thought he signed a new contract’, said Pradeep

‘Give him a new contract or he’ll be scoring such beauties for LiverFools’, said Akin

‘Hahaha stop teasing us. I think u attached the wrong link. Announce Jack Wilshere!!!!’, said Djo

Wilshere had more or less been a regular in the Cup competitions earlier in the season with Arsene Wenger sticking with Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka at the heart of the midfield.

However, an injury to Ramsey enabled Wilshere make his maiden league start of the season during the festive period, and he has since put in a number to top-notch displays, which have led to calls for a new deal.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had initially suggested that an extension would be finalised before the end of January, and though it seems inevitable that Wilshere will commit his future, talks of a pay-cut could yet stall the deal.

The 26-year-old has been asked to take a pay-cut which would be compromised through his appearances as well as performances on the playing field, and it is yet to be seen whether the midfielder is satisfied with the offer on the table.

Wilshere returned to the bench for his recent league outing versus Everton, and he could find himself in a similar position as earlier in the season with Ramsey having made an instant impact on his return with a maiden career hat-trick.

Granit Xhaka is probably the contender to make way for Wilshere, but Arsene Wenger has stuck with the Switzerland international regardless of his needless passing errors early on in the campaign.
