£5.8m-a-year striker finally reacts after his agent meets Arsenal officials

Mauro Icardi

Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi has claimed that he is happy at his current club and that he is not thinking about a move elsewhere, according to reports from Express.

The Arsenal target all but committed his future to the Milan giants as the North London club’s quest for a world class striker deals yet another blow.

This scenario adds up to the list of scenarios also containing Jamie Vardy’s loyalty and Gonzalo Higuain’s huge price tag, that has resulted in Arsenal failing to sign a world class striker to lift burden off Giroud.

Mauro Icardi is not the first in this window to commit his future to the club he is already playing for amidst Arsenal interest, after Jamie Vardy did the same a few weeks ago. And this would mean that the number of available or affordable strikers of the quality Arsenal are in need of, decreases by a factor of one.

There is still hope for the Gunners as Inter are allegedly hoping to cash in on Icardi as a consequence of their financial issues. Additionally, Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara has slammed the Italian club for not offering their captain what he deserves.

Corriere dello Sport claimed his wife and agent Nara had flown to London yesterday for negotiations and the agent is said to have agreed a £5.8m-a-season contract for Icardi, who is currently paid £3.2m a year in Italy.

The Argentine, however, possesses no interest whatsoever in leaving the club.

“I’m here, and I’m happy here, I say that all the time,”

“I have a contract with Inter until 2019 and they’re my team. For everything else, it’s the club that has to speak.

“I’m working to improve my game, to play well and to provide options for the coach.

“My entire family’s objective is to stay in Milan. I never concealed the fact that I’m happy in this city, as are Wanda and the children.

“Milan is our home, and that’s why she’s in talks with the club. We’re trying to find a solution.

“For now, Wanda deserves an A+ as an agent. She’s working very well.”

“I’m not interested in rumours and I don’t give much weight to what is said or written in the media. What I want is known by everyone. I’m happy here, and this is where I want to stay,”

“When I chose Inter I wanted to affirm myself in these colours and that objective hasn’t changed. We reached the Europa League in the first season, missed it in the second, made it in the third. Now we’re ready to come back to Europe as protagonists.

“Me, wearing other colours? I’ll tell you the truth, I’m an Interista. Very much an Interista. This is the team I’m a fan of and these are my colours. There’s a strong bond.

“Football is a business and anything can happen, but I’m wearing the captain’s arm-band for Inter, I’ve been here three years and my objective is to win as a Nerazzurro. I want to make it.”

Taking all this into account, this transaction shall involve some serious cash provided the transfer does take place.

Whichever way one looks at it, this does not sound good for the clubs interested on him. Nevertheless, with rumors inferring that Wanda Nara has flown to London for negotiations regarding a switch to the Gunners, this might not be the end of the story after all.

In previous reports, such as the one by The Daily Star, the Inter Milan skipper would come for a fee between £38m and £42m.

47 goals in 88 league appearances for Inter. Still only 23. It does take some money.
