23-year-old attacker issues come-and-get-me plea to Arsenal

Basel winger Mohamed Elyounoussi has reportedly set a come-and-get-me plea to Arsenal after being watched by the north London side on numerous occasions over the past few years.

The Norway international has been in fine form for the Swiss giants this term, and his performances in the Champions League, especially versus Manchester City, appear to have caught the eye of the Gunners.

In a report covered by The Star, he said:

“A club which is usually in the Premier League top four has followed me for a long time. I just learned that they have stepped up their interest even more after what happened in the Champions League.

“Is it Arsenal? I can’t comment, but it is a club that everybody knows with a long history. A big club that has watched me a couple of times before, but they have now increased their interest in me.”

The winger added that Basel would sanction his sale during the summer transfer window, but any interested parties may have to pay up the club’s asking price, which currently stands at a reasonable £18m.

Obviously, the fans will expect the club to strength the main weaknesses on the field, which remain at the heart of the defence, but they could still be the possibility of recruiting a forward-minded player in the summer.

With the departures of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott in January, Arsenal find themselves short of quality talent in the wide positions, in particular, and Elyounoussi is a player with potential to compete with the likes of Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck.

The fee is also reasonable in the current trend of the transfer market, and it will be interesting to see whether the club lodge a formal approach for the Morocco-born midfielder after several years of scouting the 23-year-old.
